NICE frame-work presents a range of career areas of focus and they all-brings their own specialty to the overall Cybersecurity workforce .Out of the seven National Initiatives for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce-Framework, the following areas are where I would want to focus my career on.
1)Analyze: Some disciplines of studies, like Cybersecurity requires every aspect of a scenario to be weighed and analyzed carefully. Past, present and future threat analysis are essential for the overall functionality of the cybersecurity workforce. Future protection techniques can only be developed from the pros and cons taken out of previous and current incidents analysis. To perform all these, a highly-specialized review and evaluation on the characteristics and nature of the incoming Cybersecurity threat is also vital. This area seems interesting to me, may be because of my curious nature to understand the social aspect of Cybersecurity, such as, why do users or hacker do what they do? This task also satisfy my personal interest of connecting dots as to reach a certain theory or decision.
2) Operate and Maintain: This is the technical area of Cybersecurity that appeals to me the most. Even though a strong cybersecurity posture requires a multi dimensional understanding of many areas, technical skill is one of the important aspects of cybersecurity that are at the front line of supporting, protecting and maintaining information technology systems. An effective and efficient information system performance and security and a continual maintenance to ensure its maximum operational objectives is needed for a healthy system operations. I would like to see myself being part of this team for I believe collective-team ideas and knowledge can unlock mysteries and provide solutions in the complex environment of Cybersecurity.
3) Protect and Defend: when it comes to protect and defend, I believe my little story might tell a little bit about the necessity of this task. Many years ago, when I played as a goal keeper for my team, my justification for this concept of protecting and defending is that, if I don’t let my opponent score a goal to us then at-least, the chances are we are going to win or draw at the worst. I believed not letting the ball in the net is the aim of the game, therefore I acted accordingly without much concern of how the rest of the event will unfold. Here my sole task was to understand the angles where the players are trying to score through and be able to neutralize whatever shots are coming towards my poles. I believe this same mind-set is in me when it comes to Cybersecurity. I genuinely believe that staying ahead of opponents (hackers in our case) in identifying and analyzing what are the possible gateways and how can they be secured in a variety of best mitigation practices can essential reduce system penetration attempts. Protecting and defending in this way will definitely minimize, if not completely remove system network penetration.
NOTE: The rest of the NICE workforce frameworks are related to the above three workforces. For example analyze and investigate are interrelated in their tasks. Even though the three tasks are appealing to me more than other, the rest are something I wouldn’t have a problem working with.
