Going on a Job Hunt

What two jobs interest you? What skills are required for the two jobs you selected?

One of the two jobs I chose to research was “Threat Hunter.” The job of a Threat Hunter is to find threats and minimize and eliminate the threat before it has a chance to cause problems within organizational IT systems. To be considered for a position as Threat Hunter, it is recommended that you have a bachelor’s degree in cyber security or a similar field. It is also recommended that you complete the CompTIA Cyber Security Analyst certification, showing that you will be able to handle the tasks for the job.

The second job I chose to research was an “Incident Responder”. The purpose of an Incident responder is to divert and reduce security threats and help maintain and safeguard organization security. To obtain this position, most organizations require you to have your bachelor’s degree in cyber security or a related field at minimum. It is also in your best interest to obtain at least one of the following certifications: incident handler, certified intrusion analyst, or certified forensics analyst.

What disciplines do you see represented in these 50 jobs? What was your biggest surprise?

A few of the disciplines that all 50 jobs have in common are the prevention of data loss, data recovery, penetration testing, and cyber analysis. The biggest surprise of all to me was that although the jobs have different titles, the tasks of the jobs are incredibly similar and still require the same degree. For example, Threat Hunters are tasked with tracking and mitigating threats and preventing the attacks from happening. In comparison, Incident Responders whose tasks are responding to threats, detecting them, and preventing them before they happen.
