Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a very interesting theory. The theory is that all humans are put in a hierarchy and go up it as their needs are met. starting off from basic needs such as food, water, and sleep. Then going all the way up to self-actualization. Or in simpler terms, full personal potential has been achieved.

Now how does this hierarchy tie into cyber? Well the internet has impacted our needs and wants tremendously. We are so used to it that we don’t even notice. You can purchase clothing and food online with the push of a button. Without even leaving your house two of your most basic needs have been met. Technology does however cause loss of sleep when used for long periods. When on your computer late at night, the blue light being emitted tricks your brain into staying awake. Making it much harder for you to get to sleep in a timely manner. The internet has also hindered our safety in some ways. Hackers can get into your life if you are not taking the proper safety precautions, many sights like Facebook, take your info and sell it without you knowing. And cyber bullying has been a huge issue since the dawn of chat rooms. While there are some negatives, the positives outweigh them. People never have to feel lonely as they can chat with their friends and loved ones on the phone or computer. You can create and run a business from the comfort of your home. Being successful through that will give you your sense of achievement. And while in my eyes I feel that self-actualization is impossible for humans as it is in our nature to always want more. I do feel that someone can feel as though they have achieved that state. And it would be a tremendous help to use the internet as an aid.
