Birth control is a way of stopping something that is very natural for a woman which is having children. Birth control is the practice of preventing pregnancies that are unwanted by a woman for many different reasons. Birth control can also help women that have different illnesses and can’t control their menstrual periods throughout the months.

For the final project, I thought it would be a great idea to create an after-school program for young women in high school that would like to know more information about birth control and the different options that are offered to women all over the United States. In high schools, today they have eliminated all sex ed classes and there is no school teaching young women and men about safety precautions to take if they are sexually active. They may have to rely on parent’s knowledge, but some children become very fearful when talking to their parents about certain topics. This is a huge reason why I feel that an after-school group on birth control could definitely give young girls some of the knowledge they’re lacking. I’ve decided to create an informational brochure for a company that I made up to come to different schools and give out important information at no cost at all. In the brochure, I explain the different services that we provide and what my company will do to educate women and allow them to make decisions about what goes into their bodies. One goal for the group, would be to try to bring the program into the community as well. I would try to cooperate health clinics and allow them to come in certain meeting days and talk to the children about different birth control options and the Do’s and the Don’ts.

I found a website called “Beyond the Pill” this an organization that educates high schools and even colleges. They offer many different avenues for you to learn about the different types of birth control and what’s best for your body. They offer research, training, different educational tools and a lot more.

Also, in the brochure there are a lot of pictures showing the different contraceptive methods and how they’re used in the woman’s body. We want the high school girls to also understand that birth control is not only used to not having children, a lot of women use birth control to control painful menstrual cycles and painful ovarian cysts. You should not be ashamed about talking about birth control when it comes to your health, no question is a dumb question and that’s what my company stands by.

In this after school program, there will be a series of workshops that will be offered to the high school girls. Workshops are a great educational tool for any age across the board and a lot of people leave the workshops with a great insight on the topic at hand. In these workshops, we will play games and offer great information on birth control.

We will also provide the high school women with a lot of different avenues that they may have no knowledge about. There are different avenues that are not spoken about to a lot of women and they also accumulate a bad impression on certain businesses. The one program that women do not have knowledge about is Planned Parenthood. Some women believe that this program is only used for women that are looking into having an abortion and, that is not the case. Planned Parenthood is a health care provider to women that are not insured and have to come out of pocket a lot of money for contraceptive. It is a non-profit organization that was founded October 16, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York and has become a huge part of women’s life since then. With the recent speculations of defunding women all around the world have become nervous and not knowing what they are going to do next.

I feel that this would be a great educational tool for young women in high school. When I was in high school, we were not offered after school programs or classes that dealt with women’s health and decisions dealing with their bodies. It would be a great start to allowing young women to become control of their bodies and feel as if they are in control.
