- Describe five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field.
- In my field (cybersecurity), there are many businesses and non-profits that have been created. A major corporation that many may know is CISCO. Cisco is mainly known for the networking hardware and software that they supply. They have made their name in who they supply to and the major financial strides they’ve been able to make. Next is McAfee. McAfee is a security company that supplies software solutions. They are well known for their antivirus software/firewalls. Symantec is another cybersecurity business that has a Cyber Defense Platform, that helps protect cloud and on-premise environments. They help companies like Norton. Darktrace is a cyber company that specializes in AI to defend against machine-based cyberattacks. Lastly, Zeguro is a startup that acts as a service platform to help companies monitor risks, train employees, and recover from cyberattacks.
- What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?
- My perspective on the entrepreneurship experience has definitely broadened. Especially with the services offered at ODU, I have been exposed to the services I didn’t know existed. As an entrepreneur, it has given me a new perspective on how to sell my resume, and how to deal with people in different ethical perspectives.
- How did the entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?
- Again, this has helped me in how I sell my resume and experience to not just change wording, but look for keywords based on my audience. There is a lot more effort and research that goes into job searching than I thought.
- What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?
- To improve the experience, I would not suggest this to be an online course. In all honesty, it works, but I believe it would be a lot more integrated if it was in person. I liked the way the modules were set up, I just believe it could have made a more lasting impact if we weren’t paying for a class just to teach ourselves. I definitely appreciate the professor, and her being open to meeting with us, that is just my opinion.
- What’s next for you?
- Since I am graduating, I want to continue with this broadened perspective not only in the workplace, but in life as well. I will change the wording on my resume especially after looking at the workplaces and finding their mission and coordinating my wording with their mission. Thank you again!
