In this assignment, I learned the affect that random acts of kindness has on me, and the emotional response I have towards those in need. For me, I do random acts on kindness regardless of race, gender, or even sexual orientation, and in that way, I feel like I am contributing to softening the harsh divide and eliminating prejudice that can exist between those with different races, cultures, and backgrounds. This assignment was relevant to me because working towards being a child therapist requires you to be kind and compassionate, and this assignment showed me that I have it in my heart to work with children or anybody, for that matter, because I genuinely care about people.

I chose this picture because it demonstrates one of the acts of kindness that I performed for my assignment. This was the easiest act i did and it is one of the many ways to effortlessly help somebody out. I really enjoyed this assignment because I got to explore a little bit into my relationship and examine how I show love. In this assignment, we had to take two tests that would tell us, perhaps, how we show love to others and test our levels of intimacy, commitment, and love. These tests had pretty good validity in their results, but I wouldn’t say with 100% certainty that they are accurate. For example, in one of the test, there were some questions they inferred that most relationships started from a friendship, and that wasn’t the case for my relationship so this hindered the accuracy of my results. Other than that, for me, my results were pretty accurate, and I could make the connection from the tests to how I am in my actual relationship. This assignment related to my scientific reasoning class because in that class we often assess the reliably and validity of experiments, and I applied this prior knowledge to the tests I took for this assignment.

This is a picture of my boyfriend and I. I wanted to include this picture because this is the relationship that I based my answers on those tests on.

This assignment was an interesting one. In my opinion, I think the question of whether or not Michael Richard is racist, based on his derogatory comments, could be plausibly inferred. It would be interesting to read my classmates papers and see how they felt about this situation and what their opinions are about Michael Richard. This assignment made me think about “cancel culture”, and how prevalent that has been in our society. I was also able to make a connection to my Introduction to Criminology class because in that class we differentiated between criminal behavior and deviant behavior. In this case, Michael Richard’s behavior is deviant, which means most people can agree that his actions were wrong, but they weren’t criminal. This assignment was personally relevant to me because unfortunately it is very common for white celebrities to make incredibly racist or discriminatory comments to which they then send out an ingenuine apology to make amends. It becomes frustrating and saddening when celebrities you are fond of, like Shane Dawson, show their true colors.

I really enjoyed the concept for the Self-Portrait assignment and seeing how different aspects of who I am can be perceived through photographs. I knew that looking at other’s photographs can tell you things about them, for example, a picture of somebody posing on a hiking trail may lead you to think that that person is adventurous. But, I never really thought about the other side of that, how the person in the photograph may see themselves, or how they want people to see them. Doing this assignment, I learned about self-promotion and how I’ve used this before without consciously knowing that I had. I liked this assignment because, in a way, it was a form of introspection because I was able to think about why the images I chose are important to me and how I think they represent me.  I learned that the moments where I am truly happy are usually when I’m with the people I love or doing something I enjoy. I also learned that the things I want people to conclude about me, based on the images I present, are things I am personally proud of and want others to validate such as my accomplishments in school and achieving personal goals. The picture below is an image of a friend and I that I have used and do use for self promotion, and it is an image that shows others how accomplished I have been and continue to be.
