- STUDY HABITS: I try to study 2 hours a day sorting out my classes into smaller timed intervals. I study for each class for about 45 minutes, then moving onto a different class to give myself a break from one subject. My grades aren’t exactly the highest, especially my test grades. I would like to add more time on studying to about an hour and thirty per class to try and increase my grades in my chemistry classes and my history class. I tend to study in my room after classes either midday or evening after dinner. I often find myself distracted while studying, and would like to try a new area to study where I am involved with little to no distractions. I am the most alert during lunch time and wouldn’t mind studying during this time due to the fact of attaining more information.
- LEARNING STYLE: In high school, the only study technique I knew how to do was to rewrite and memorize. While in college, I’ve tried new techniques such as study chapter by chapter, flashcards, study with a partner, and try to re-read my notes multiple times. I believe that rereading notes and highlighting key ideas per chapter is the best way for me to study. For classes like chemistry, it’s a bit harder to so this is where problem solving comes into play and I’ll just practice with fake quizzes and tests.
- TRANSITION TO COLLEGE: College is not what I expected at all. It’s different because although I knew the classwork/homework would be difficult, I was not expecting the workload. I don’t have a difficult time interpreting each class, but I struggle with time management. I was surprised about not talking to many people. Even being this far into the semester, and I still haven’t participated much socially, but I did join the swim club to help bring out my social side.My favorite thing about campus is the pier by rodgers, it’s a nice place to think and do classwork. The toughest challenge about campus would have to be the distance for walking. Living in Gresham makes it a bit more difficult to get from place to place, and it’s pretty far from most of campus making it easier to be antisocial and being stuck in the room most of the time.
- CONNECTING TO CAMPUS: One problem on campus is the distance and managing to get to classes on time. I’ve used the lime scooters on multiple occasions to make it across campus a bit easier. It helps that they are pretty cheap and I only use them for minimal things. My roommate is one of my main sources of help in college. She helps me with studying, any issues on homework, the motivation to attend classes, even personal problems. I have not been to any interests meeting for any clubs, but I have joined the swim club and hopefully others once I find myself in a stable position in school. I decided to join the swim club to be physically active again and to enjoy something that helps me with my academic success.
