- I volunteered with IGNITE at Old Dominion University from 2-5 on Wednesday the 13th and 20th. During my experience, we toured the pantry and learned the way it worked, and then continued to post fliers around the entire campus such as the Webb, Gresham, the library and Broderick.
- Their purpose is to get students involved in volunteering, participation in bible studies, helping out the community with the pantry. The address religion and hunger for those around them, and are overall a friendly environment.
- I realized that there are many groups of services that try to provide to those who are in need. My opinion changed because originally, I thought this program wouldn’t have much community services, but realized that they wish to see the best in people and they wish to provide to those without by having students come and manage their pantry, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
- Prior to this semester, I was continuously helping my bed-ridden grandma with her heart diseases. I saw what effort it took for her to go to church, use the bathroom, or simply walk from one side of the room to another. This and my service learning helped me realize that working with people in exercise science would be best fitting for me in terms of assisting individuals who struggle on the daily.
- These services relate because of the help of another individual(s). I know within my field of work, I will have to do tasks that I may question, but know that they are there for some specific reason. This can relate to any health science field such as Physical Therapy, Nursing, or occupational therapy. Considering the similarities, I would consider Occupational Therapy as my parallel major because although it has different proceedings, it is highly similar to exercise science because of the help with the human body.
- I try to study at least an hour and a half per subject which is almost 40 minutes more compared to the beginning of the semester. I do this the night before a specific class, and I try to study now with soothing music in the background and try and color coordinated my notes as well as rewriting definitions. This habit works for most of my classes expect chemistry which I practice conversion factors.
- I expected college to be fun, challenging, and a life-changing experience. I found that the learning living community is a good resource because it helps me with keeping up with the latest activities as well as becoming more involved within the community around me. I found that the shuttle unhelpful because I don’t really understand how they work and almost always end up on the opposite side of campus. I wish I knew how overwhelming college would be, and how much they load work on you. If i knew this I believe I would have been able to manage my workload better. I learned how to manage my stress which will be very useful next semester so I wont find myself unmotivated again.
