1.Name: Emily Lipp
2.Position: Registered Nurse
3.Where: Henrico’s Doctors Parham
4.Education: Associates Degree, ODU BSN (nursing program online)

6.What was the path you took to become a nurse? She originally wanted to be a Physical Therapist so she volunteered at John Randolph Hospital, then went to Physical Therapy school, but didn’t like it because it wasn’t as action-filled, so she switched to nursing school.
7. Basic Responsibilities: She worked patient care, shadowed and assisted nurses, (vital signs, no hands on, did things like take them to the bath, shower, bathroom) Now shes a full registered nurse, so she does all the hands on requirements as well as patient safety above all, compassion and care for the whole patient and or population (their family), primary care, advocate for patients, promotion of preventive measures (flu shots, checkups, health)
8. Favorite reward that comes with the job? Gets to meet new people and help talk them through bad days.

11. Any advice? Study hard, learn all you can because you will never stop learning, acquire as many resources as possible, stay updated with all the current studies in your field, because there are new things being discovered faster than you can keep up.

I’ve learned many different resources that I could utilize for my school work, as she is still currently in school, and I’ve also learned that Registered Nursing wouldn’t be the right job for me. The experiences that Emily encountered is quite disturbing and I’m not sure I could handle the stress and long days that nurses struggle with everyday. Even so, It makes her love her job all the more because she knows that what she is doing takes a lot of courage and bravery that not many individuals have.
