Old Dominion University Canvas.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These goals will be met in four ways (Graham, 2023):<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will gain a basic understanding of the Internet&#8217;s architecture.&nbsp; Students need knowledge of how computers communicate through interconnected networks to understand how many cybercrimes are committed.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will explore the most common types of cybercrimes.&nbsp; Cybercrimes can be roughly divided into four categories \u2013 cybertrespass, cyberpornography, cyber violence, and cyber deception.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will critique the significant debates surrounding cybercrime.&nbsp; Society\u2019s understanding of what should be prohibited, how we should investigate, and how we should prosecute cybercrime are continuously being negotiated by groups in society.&nbsp; Our social world is socially constructed, and cybercrime issues are no different.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will connect cybercrimes to broader social impacts relating to individuals and families.&nbsp; While cybersecurity courses may focus more on corporations&#8217; and governments\u2019 concerns and how to protect the data within them, a cybercrime course focuses more on how everyday people are victimized.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Course Material <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"533\" height=\"670\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/branden-barnes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32766\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-02-214324-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-466 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/branden-barnes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32766\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-02-214324-1.png 533w, https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/branden-barnes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32766\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-02-214324-1-239x300.png 239w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Cyber criminology is important to cybersecurity because it involves an understanding of the motivations, tactics, and behaviors of cyber criminals.
