Hi, my name is Brandon Braxton. I’m a cybersecurity student at Old Dominion University with a strong interest in technology, problem solving, and continuous learning. I came to this program with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Christopher Newport University, and a genuine interest in understanding not just how networks are built, but also how they’re broken into, defended, and secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By day, I work as a Network Provisioning Technician at Old Dominion University, where I configure and maintain network infrastructure across the university’s systems. That role has given me practical, hands-on exposure to enterprise networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the classroom, I’m deepening that knowledge through coursework in cybersecurity fundamentals, network defense, law and ethics, and applied security. The combination of real-world network work and academic study means I’m building skills on both ends at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My primary interest is network engineering and security engineering, specifically building and protecting infrastructure. With a background in how networks are provisioned and maintained, I’m well-placed to understand where the weak points are and what it takes to address them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m drawn to the defensive side of cybersecurity: monitoring, hardening, and incident response. I believe that strong network defense starts with a deep understanding of how networks actually function, which is something my engineering background and current role give me every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
