An examination of the history, concepts, and application of interdisciplinary study. This course includes an analysis of similarities and differences in academic disciplines and the application of interdisciplinary approaches to a specific topic of study. This is a writing-intensive course.

This three-credit-hour course provides an introduction to the foundational history, concepts, theories, strategies, and applications of interdisciplinary studies. This six-week online, asynchronous, and writing-intensive course utilizes the 10-STEP interdisciplinary research process (IRP) model of Repko and Szostak (2021). Course Learning Outcomes
The course learning outcomes include but are not limited to:
- Understanding the core concepts, terms, ideas, and theories of the field of interdisciplinary studies.
- Applying Repko & Szostak’s (2021) 10-STEP model to the interdisciplinary research process (IRP).
- Applying an interdisciplinary research process and creating an interdisciplinary product.
- Exploring and applying appropriate interdisciplinary strategies to broaden and enrich critical thinking, learning, and problem-solving skills in the course and beyond.
- Improving writing skills.
- Understanding the interdisciplinary nature of education and work.
