Initially I was thinking this course was going to be more self-help, mainly because within the last couple years I’ve associated psychology with self-help. But in actuality, I feel as if I learned more of why things function within society the way they do, and that certain ways of decision making have names and techniques applied to them. Which correlated with the objectives within this course. My attitude toward this course has changed the way I viewed this class because I was thinking it would be based around social skills. But this course was broader, and more in depth in its own regard to a lot of tasks I think we perform unconsciously. If I took the class again, I’d try to be more organized and take my time on reading through the textbook. Academically I’ve grown in recognizing what hinders me from performing optimally, which gives me tons of insight that I can adjust come summer semester. As far as skills, I don’t think I’ve retained any specific skill, but more that I’m more self aware then before. But this self awareness can still useful professionally.

I chose this picture because I did start the quarter off bad in one of my other classes, but things are starting to turn around for me. Even at the beginning of this class, everyone was freaking out about how confusing it all looked, but sticking with the course showed me, that life can sometimes be as difficult as you wish to make it.

My top 3 blogs would have to be blog 6, 3, and 2. I chose blog 6 because it showed me a different perspective of how women are portrayed in media and advertisement. Blog 3 was showing how music helps us to find our similarities with others which resonated with me the most of out all 3 of the other blogs because I write, and perform music. The last blog I chose was blog 2 because it forced me to self reflect on what type of student I am and what study habits I have or don’t have. Blog 3 connected with assignment takeaway 2 as well as one of the assignment where we had to assign family members, friends, etc, to certain songs that reminded us of them which really helped me dive deeper into the imaginative element if music. Over all, this class connects a lot with the Psychology of Women course I am taking, mainly because there’s certain aspects in this course that not only talks about how women are misrepresented and over sexualized but the course also dives into topics such as stereotypes, racism, and prejudice which both these courses have covered.

Ways men upset women and women upset men, for this I’ll start with how men upset women, I think we upset women when we say we’re going to do something, and don’t follow through. In heterosexual relationships, I also believe women fall into frustration when a man doesn’t have purpose, direction, or understand attraction. The ability to listen is very important as well. Ways women upset men, is the lack of decisiveness, when it comes to making plans. Another thing that I find in really attractive women is that they can be really stuck up. Although some men don’t care how you treat them, men that appear to be all googly eyed, but any man of value will not want to deal with someone who feels entitled because of how good they look. Another thing we can find frustrating, is lack of support and encouragement at times. These are just my personal experiences and opinions.

Self Regulation and Emotional Intelligence complement each other because emotions aren’t something that happens outside of ourselves, but serves more as an internal compass. Self regulation allows us to understand and manage our emotions, while emotional intelligence is much of the same as in how we respond and perceive these emotions, what actions arise after the emotion is present and felt? To me, emotional intelligence means that I am taking accountability for how I feel. That my anger, frustration, happiness, and joy don’t belong to anyone but me. Emotional intelligence is how I use these emotions in response to others and myself, while the lack their of is placing blame, lashing out, or avoiding and suppressing emotions all together. I personally display emotional intelligence when I perform martial arts. some people feel as if the angrier they fight, the better they’ll perform, but I find that the more patient I am, the more opportunities present themselves in sparring. Still, I could work on my emotional intelligence, I can be Zen in practice but an entirely different person on the freeway. I remember countless times where someone cuts me off or rides my bumper and I find myself lashing out, mistaking my anger for strength. Completely unaware and ignorant of what weapons a person may have, or what their capable of. I could improve my overall EQ by taking my time in life, rather then rushing through everything.

Prior to this Ted talk, I never noticed how much women are misrepresented in ads. I don’t pay much attention to ads or commercials even, so this was very eye opening. I do agree with how media and society sexualizes women overtly, the main thing I can draw from is the music industry. The believed method of making it as a musician for a woman is to sell sex. Not only to sell it and sing about it, but to look the part, not have the pimples, or the love handles. It seems that society is a lot more critical of a woman’s appearance in a lot of these aspects. It’s sad, because it doesn’t allow us to delve in the authenticity of a person. What culture defines as beautiful can pressure girls and young women to be and acta certain way that isn’t conducive to who they are.
My first image shows the stereotypes that are pushed upon women by society, mainly of them belonging in the kitchen, and if their not able to prepare meal, it’s almost as if society sees you as incompetent.

My 2nd picture talks about how even in food ads, women are are sexualized and that porn like themes are placed within the advertising.
My 3rd photo was motivated by the part of the video that showed Miley Cyrus, and how her performances and appearance in general, is hyper sexualized, much like Cardi B.

My 4th photo is to go into the coloring of black women, to make them appear lighter, and look more European.

The last 2 photos were motivated from the part of the video that discussed body image and how ads try to exploit personal, and vulnerable things about women.

Picture A is a not credible source of a plant based diet consisting of products that have animal free ingredient like the meal displayed in the picture above. This type of diet persuades people in eating healthier and to be aware of what’s in the food their consuming.

Picture B showcases how the previous photo can not be as credible because although an animal free diet is healthy in certain aspects, their are negatives that you should consult your doctor about. Deficiency’s such as lack of calcium and B-12. (credible}

For becoming plant based my last slide is the more attractive form of persuasion, mainly because your transitioning your diet into a way that’s not as sacrificing. You still get fries with your meal, and all the other ingredients that come with a regular burger minus the beef, although the beyond meat is cooked on the same grills they use for beef, pork, etc. Mcdonald’s also has many celebs such as Travis Scott that have their own customized meals that customers can partake in, driving up sales and attention for this company. After reviewing my exam results, I should have definitely taken better notes, and use the chapter review videos more. I didn’t space the review sheet nor did I augment my notes which ended up costing me valuable points for this exam. For future test, organizing my notes and going over the review sheet should change my results drastically. My goal is to get more organized and not do so many different things last minute because I can’t afford to fail any of my classes. Next go around, I need to watch the chapter review videos, go over the sheet, augment my notes, and study more effectively.

Connection between music and Relationships
The article was fascinating in correlating that similar music interest doesn’t just show how similar our personalities are, but it shows that we may hold similar values. I never thought of it like that, my favorite musician is Kendrick Lamar. He inspired me to make more music that’s self aware and even political at times. I have another good friend who makes music and we have similar artist that have influenced us artistically. Safe to say are music doesn’t sound the same, but we have similar subject matter and have endless conversations on a lot of the social ills that plague the world. But artist like Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Nas, etc. They all create music that inspire others to educate themselves, and rise above their surroundings by bringing up these conversations, and challenging the status quo.
Songs that remind me of Key people in my Life
- Pretty Wings by Maxwell reminds me of my mom because she use to always play Maxwell when I was growing up, with plenty other great musicians.
2. No Vaseline by Ice Cube, reminds me of my uncle, mainly because he use to always play 90’s hip hop, and Ice Cube was a big influence in what got me into making music.
3. Best Part by Daniel Cesar and H.E.R reminds me of my girlfriend. We use to listen to this song all the time in the beginning of our relationship.
4. Thrift Shop by Macklemore reminds me of one of my good friends because I did a remix of it when I was in 8th grade and out of all the YouTube videos I did at the time, that one for some reason BLEW UP!
5. Dysphoria by Norwood, is track I released on my 2020 EP, Woodland Ave. This song encompasses me because I feel as if it was the most insightful song I made concerning myself and just what I was dealing with at that time.
VISUAL REPRESENTATION

This image and song reminds me of all these people because we all love this show. It’s iconic, and something that unifies us all, almost like football.

26/40
My self efficacy results came out to be, 26/40. It’s a decent score but it could be improved if I applied the proper studying, and took advantage of the tools at my disposal. Currently, the student I am tries to get to a end solution as quick as I can, but I’m realizing success requires a lot more effort then skimming through material. When my back is against the wall, I am capable of being a great student, but laziness and procrastination can get the best of me. My mind likes to map out everything I need to do, but at the same time, I’m very calm as to not worry myself so that I can perform under less self imposed stress.

The course objectives outlined in the syllabus I feel, will help me by understanding the way in which we make decisions, socially, and how we can better navigate social settings independent from the influence of our peers, media, and parents. With this course I am hoping to gain a stronger sense of who I am. The strategies I intend to implement , are developing consistency with a daily planner so that I can stay up to date on my assignments.
