Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level
relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of
how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

The first base of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is the sociological needs, where common examples are food, shelter, and rest. For me, I have to be in contact with people through my device, such as my family, in order to ensure that they know I am okay. If this does not happen, my family begins to worry about safety. I also use my phone to identify places where I can get groceries, and where the nearest restaurants are. The second base is the safety needs. Having a cell phone on hand allows me to know that if I am in trouble, either through the threat of violence, or being on the side of the road, I have a way to contact people who can help me. Without a cell phone, I would not have an easy way to reach people that could help me. Therefore, my cell phone fulfills my safety need. The third layer of the Hierarchy of Needs is the Belongingness and Love need, and sadly, this is fulfilled through social media. I am able to find people that are like-minded, and therefore feel a sense of belonging. The second to last layer of the Hierarchy of Needs is the Esteem need, which is also satisfied with me using social media, and I also play games that are meant to be rewarding, so I enjoy getting a sense of accomplishment from a simple game. Self-actualization is the final tier of the Hierarchy of Needs, and this is where me using technology to write my essays, and complete homework is done. I also use electronics to be creative, such as making videos.
