After watching the video, write a journal entry about how you think the media influences our understanding about cybersecurity.

I believe that media attempts to use some assets from real cybersecurity work to make it appear more realistic, but Hollywood prefers to overdramatize things in order to keep the attention of the audience. As I have heard many times throughout my life, “the best lies start with a grain of truth”. The grains of truth here are the actual techniques and tools used by cyber professionals, but it is usually not even close to how fast it is shown in movies. The media also implies that cybersecurity is only for the smartest of the smartest, because they can type on a computer and make it have results that an average computer user can’t do. This is actually very toxic for the cybersecurity workforce, as it hinders many people from going into the field because they do not believe that they are intelligent enough. Media tends to portray and influence viewers to believe that hackers are people that are geniuses and can commit heists in a night’s work. Usually though, cybersecurity is all about careful planning, and time.
