Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal. Review what the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.
The eleven things Internet users do are:
- Use unofficial streaming services.
- Use Torrent services.
- Use Copyright images.
- Share others’ passwords, photos, and addresses.
- Bullying/Trolling
- Recording a call over the internet without consent
- Faking one’s identity online.
- Using other people’s internet networks
- Collecting information about children
- Extracting audio from YouTube
- Illegal searches on the internet.
Out of these 11 offenses, the five most serious violations are sharing other people’s information (passwords, etc.), Faking one’s identity online, collecting information about children, illegal searches on the Internet, and recording a call over the internet without consent. Sharing other people’s information is wrong on many levels, mainly because people have a right to privacy. It should be up to them on when and where, and even if, they want their addresses shared, and with whom. If passwords are shared, it also destroys the point of having them. Faking one’s identity can cause a misplaced sense of trust and can lead to the gaining of knowledge or assets that should not be in that person’s possession. It is misinformation about who a person is, and this can lead to trouble. Collecting information about children is just innately wrong. Children do not have a right to choose anything for themselves until the age of 18, so obtaining information about them without their consent is just wrong. Especially under the age of 13, they cannot even understand what is being taken from them, and so therefore it is not fair to take their information without their knowledge. Illegal searches on the internet are about topics such as making bombs, and child pornography. These topics cannot lead to anything positive, and child pornography is already illegal for very good reason, so looking it up should be illegal as well. Recording someone without their consent is wrong, because it can portray them in a negative light, and it can also be considered a breach in their privacy. Privacy is a major concern for people, so it should not be legal for that to be jeopardized by someone by recording without permission.
