motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense
(being 1) to the least sense (being 7). Explain why you rank each
motive the way you rank it.

My Ranking of the reasons:

  1. Multiple Reasons
  2. For Money
  3. Entertainment
  4. Boredom
  5. Revenge
  6. Recognition
  7. Political

Multiple reasons is the most sensical reason to commit a cybercrime, as it is rarely just one reason to commit the cybercrime. Money is the next most likely reason, because money is one of the biggest reasons for committing crimes in general. Entertainment is also a likely reason, because many people decide that the adrenaline rush of committing a crime is exhilarating, and since they are doing it from behind a computer screen, they are safe from retribution as well. Boredom is for the same reason, as they want some excitement in their lives. Revenge is also sadly a legitimate reason, at least to the attacker. They feel that as revenge, they can ruin another person through their cyber-attack, and get back for a wrong that they have had on them. Recognition is okay for a reason, although if they are trying to get their position more popular, it’s the wrong way to go about it. Unless they are okay with negative publicity, it is the wrong way to gain more recognition. Political reasons make the least amount of sense, because whatever argument is trying to be made, it is tainted because of the methods gone about to make that argument.
