The NICE, National Institute of Cybersecurity Education, Framework is aimed to help employers develop their own cybersecurity workforce. The Framework allows for people to specialize in certain areas which creates expertise in the field of study.
What is the NICE Framework?
The NICE Framework is a framework which employers use to help develop their own cybersecurity workforce. The Framework does this by having seven categories in which a person can work in. The seven categories are analyze, collect and operate, investigate, operate and maintain, oversee and govern, protect and defend, and securely provision. In the seven categories, there are 33 specialty areas and 52 work roles (NICCS, 2022). This creates a massive workforce to work on the cybersecurity portion of a company or government entity.
Most Appealing
The most appealing of the seven categories of the framework is protect and defend. Protecting and defending a system or server from attack is one of the harder jobs of cybersecurity because there are endless amounts of attack methods to try to exploit a server or even a person for their credentials. Protecting and defending systems and people requires proper setup of technology and physical security to prevent data exfiltration of important documents or credentials.
Least Appealing
The least appealing of the seven categories of the framework is oversee and govern. In this category, policies, rules, laws, and education are the main focus. This category can also be extremely difficult because policies must be precise and deliberate to prevent servers and people from leaking personal and important information. The job then consists of education and teaching the policies to employees. Some people learn faster than others, which can create a challenge for people that learn a little slower. This can slow down the productivity of the department that those people are assigned to.
