As the world leans more and more into technology, people are starting to incorporate it into their lives. As technology starts to be used with more frequency, an addiction can occur especially with social media. Social media can have a negative affect on a person in the real world.

Social Media Disorder Scale

According to psytoolkit.org, I scored 2.0 on the Social Media Disorder (SMD) Scale. A 5.0 and above means a person has some type of social media disorder, whether it be addiction to overuse. The quick survey consists of nine questions, yes or no questions that one must answer with complete honesty to get accurate results. The survey asks personal social media usage questions that have happened in the past year. The questions can range from serious conflict with family members to a feeling of dissatisfaction with hobbies and friends. Social media can negatively affect people in mental and physical ways. However, this is not the same for every part of the world. Less developed countries may have different patterns compared to more developed countries. Less developed countries may have fewer people that are addicted to social media simply because the country is behind on technological advances. Social media addiction is a modern problem, especially among teenagers and young adults. This can put a mental strain on addicted people as they try to seek attention online or suffer from cyberbullying.
