What is the PrivacyRights.org and How Researchers Use It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

PrivacyRights.org is a non-profit organization that has been collecting data on data breaches since 2005. The data is stored in a CSV file that is available to download<\/a> for researchers and other organizations to study. It lists companies and data that has been stolen in data breaches such as credit card fraud, hacked systems, insider threats, lost portable devices, and unknowns. Researches can use the information collected by PrivacyRights.org to see who had their data published or sold on the dark web. This gives the researchers a chance to notify the victims involved of possible identity theft, fraud, spear phishing, and account takeovers. Notifying the victim as soon as possible will help prevent people falling for scams and other financial problems. Researches could also use the information provided to see who was responsible for the attacks and interview the perpetrator or perpetrators involved with the breaches. During the interviews, the researches could ask questions to why the attackers decided to hack, leak data, and what exploits were used to perform the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
