Team Leadership: MPH 615 Systems Thinking and Health Management Interprofessional Experience (IPE) was a group project completed in the Spring 2022 semester. The experience allowed me to develop and test my skills as a team coordinator and organizer. We established regular meeting times and assigned sections and content to each group member. The established priorities and deadlines ensured the expectations of the group were met and we completed the project on time.

Skills learned:

  • Time Management
  • Coordinating and Project Planning
  • Group Communication

Risk Communication: For MPH 632 Risk Assessment one assignment was a real test of my ability to adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure. The assignment tested a groups ability to communicate during an environmental disaster to an affected community. The scenario for the mock townhall was helpful practice for possible future career events. Adapting and being able to work within our assigned roles provided an opportunity to improve and grow my communication skill set.

Skills Learned:

  • Analytical Skills
  • Relationship-Building Skills
  • Problem Solving Skills

Peer Mentor: For my first and second semester of the MPH program I mentored junior Navy Sailors. I advised those that displayed an interest in medical and public health and explained the process to apply for Navy and university programs aimed at obtaining degrees and certifications to help improve their career choices.

  • Trust and Respect Building
  • Observation Skills
