MPH 784 Creating Sustainability Fall 2022

This paper examines and discusses the current practices of the Navy and future applications for more plant-based dietary options. The plant-based diet options on board a Navy Aircraft Carrier are limited due to storage limitations and the available technology. New technology offers the ability to expand the ability of ships to offer healthier more plant-based food to sailors. Promotional nutrition campaigns offer increased knowledge of the benefits of increased consumption of planted based sources instead of nutrient deficient and calorie dense foods. The progress toward improving shipboard galley options to incorporate more plant-based food options is showing promise and will continue to evolve as the Navy continues to make improvements to better improve the health of
its sailors.
