Activity Summary 1

My first interactions with Healthy Chesapeake were talking on the phone with Ray Shivley learning about this internship opportunity. I eventually met with them at our weekly in person meetings where we discuss and plan outreach events and future opportunities. I have also participated in some outreach events in various communities learning and listening on how to outreach and connect with those outside of the organization. As an intern my duties include learning the web app we use called Rewards for healthy living. This web app is free for those in the Hampton Roads, 757, area. This app can be referred to as a health dictionary on your phone, and individuals can win real money just by playing on the app. My duties also include completing any tasks they may be given to me such as outreach calls and follow ups. I am currently beginning to get into healthier 757’s armed forces section of outreach. I am attending calls and preparing to help and inform the coast guard on how and why they should use the app, Rewards for Healthy Living. The knowledge and skills gained and continuing to learn during this first half of the internship include time management, professionalism, professional communication, and making connections to others outside of your workspace.  This knowledge and skills are some that I will carry into future work settings. Making connections outside of the organization is something that could help me in the long run especially right before I am graduating. This can help me get a job or help me get referred to a job and ultimately could help me with anything.
