Presentational Writing:
Composition #1:
For my first Composition, I decided to write about the symptoms and sicknesses patients have in the hospital. The purpose of this activity was to expand my grammar and vocabulary by using different tenses and better sentence structure. I enjoy writing compositions because it allows me to tell a story. Also, Professora Sugg helps correct our mistakes and that is the best way to learn.
Breeana-RComposition #2:
For my second composition I was talking about leasing an apartment and what you as a renter should and should not do. The topic of this composition was a challenge for me to write about. However, the overall goal of this assignment was to elaborate in my writing by using the present subjunctive tense.
Composition-2Presentational Writing Reflection:
The main thing that challenged me about the two compositions above was the transformations from paragraph to paragraph. I have to get familiar with formal writing in the Spanish language. Aside from the transformations, trying to adjust to different tenses and when the use them was also a challenge, especially trying to tell the difference between when to use preterite or imperfect. The best way to overcome the challenges was to rewrite them with the correct adjustments for the final draft. One thing I excel at when writing compositions is the full descriptions of the main idea of the assignment.
se-accidentalInterpersonal Communication:
TalkaBroad #1:
For the first talk abroad, I was speaking with a native speaker named Daniela. Daniela was very helpful as she made me feel very comfortable to talk to her in a different language. If I made any mistakes, she would help me adjust and I would correct myself. In this assignment we talked about festivals and activities that occur in my country. I received a 40/40 for my Talkabroad, however it would not allow me to post the audio.
TalkaBroad #2:
For the second Talkabroad, it was a little more difficult as far as the topic that I had to talk about. It was more difficult for me to ellaborate on social media and the applications that I use on my phone because my vocabulary is not as advanced for that topic. However, we also began talking about the chores that I do around the house and it got a little easier. Also for this assignment, I had to try to use different tenses to expand my sentences but overall I think I received a good grade.
Lyric Game:
Lyric Game Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLz9VaksClg&feature=youtu.be
The lyric game is a good game to better your listening skills. I attempted to play this game on each level… Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced but it was not that easily. I love the fact that the timer goes down because it challenges the player to process things faster.
Interpersonal Communication Reflection:
I believe that Talkabroad was one of the most beneficial activities because it allowed me to test my experience with the language and actually speak to a native speaker for 15 minutes. It is one of the best way to practice the language aside from just speaking it in class. The most difficult thing about it was trying not to make a mistake however, I overcame that by learning from my mistakes and correcting myself along the way. If I was to do it again, I would want to be better prepared. I would prepare questions for my partner to have the conversation flow more.
Interpretive Reading:
- This activity helped expand my vocabulary for my compositions and conversations. A lot of the actions in the picture above, I was not aware of the vocabulary. Now I am able to study and remember the different sayings in the Spanish language.
Grammar:
This specific slide helped me because I would always get confused between preterite and imperfect tenses. The definition of bot tenses are shown and whenever I needed to study and reflect, this slide gave me the explanation. It allowed me to properly understand the difference between them and when to use them during the course.
Interpretive Reading Reflection:
Being able to read and comprehend the language is one of the key parts to learning a language. It is impossible to learn a language if you are not comprehending what is being said.Knowing how to apply a language to real life should be the goal. The challenge of grammar and reading is memorizing all off the rules that come along with it ( stem changes, endings, etc).
Exploring Culture:
In the picture below I traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico for vacation in 2018. I was able to try different food and desserts as I fell in love with flan (a dessert). I went on a tour around the country while the tour guide was giving historical information about it.

Exploring Culture :
This trip helped me explore the culture firsthand because I was able to experience in person instead of virtual or seeing pictures/videos online. It challenged me because I tried speaking Spanish to the waitress and the tour guide and I was not fluent at the time but they still understood me. It revealed that practice and trying to pursue the language will take time to learn. I did not have any expectations for this trip and no knowledge of stereotypes against Puerto Ricans.
Engaging In Communities:

Above is conversations between my Hispanic bestfriend Vanessa and I. Every time we talk or text we talk in Spanish because she wants to help me reach my goal and become fluent. Speaking Spanish to a native speaker is one of the best ways to learn the language a long with practice.
Engaging in Communities Reflection:
I am really thankful for having Vanessa as a friend because she communicates and corrects me when I am wrong. I am working on being able to listen faster. When I am at her house and her parents are speaking I always try to follow along and ask as many questions as I need.
Interpretive Listening:
Lyric Game:
Lyric Game Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLz9VaksClg&feature=youtu.be
The lyric game is a song game in Spanish that allows the player to fill in the blank while the song is playing. This helps your listening skills because it will not allow you to go on to the next word if you do not fill in the blanks.
Interpretive Listening Reflection:
The lyric game is a good game to better your listening skills. I attempted to play this game on each level… Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced but it was not that easily. I love the fact that the timer goes down because it challenges the player to process things faster.
Reflection:
Although COVID made this semester a little rocky, I managed to remain on average in the Spanish 201 course. I was able to learn more tenses to advance my sentence structure (i.e present subjunctive, preterite, imperfect, etc). Overall, this was a great semester with Professora Sugg! Highly recommend..
