Review Maslow’s Hierrachy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology.  Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs when pertaining to technology today is a great example of how the world and society has changed into what it is now. For most of the world today, our phones and internet connection has been incorporated into our basic needs. I must admit, losing my phone at an amusement park and not having one was a gruesome 2 weeks. Disgregarding my personal experineces, if the entire world lost connection to the internet for just 5 minutes, it would affect business, companies, universities, just about everything in the world. In the next layer of the hierarchy is security; which in today’s case is security of technology. When an individual or company experiences a security breach, whether that be a bug, virus, phish, there is a psychological and emotional reaction, which causes one to be frantic, panic, etc. This reaction from indiviuals serves as a great example for security to be an individuals 2nd needs. The third placement are esteem needs, where one build relationships with one another. In a technical sense, the way of communicatiing today is mainly through social media. There has been times where a security problem would occur to a social media platform (such as Twitter) where its not usable at the current moment, and society will utilize another medium (Instagram) to talk or mainly joke about the problems that the platform is facing. The world manages to find ways to communicate and to relate to one another, so when one medium is down, its almost like routine or a procedure that society set in place for desperate measures. That’s one of the positive effects of social media, but along with that are negative influeneces on ones esteem. Many of the things we see on social media are fake and there are people that don’t realize that, envying a life that isn’t ones actual reality is dangerous to ones mental health.
