My experience in the cyber field started at Brooks Crossing Innovation Lab. As a cybersecurity intern there, my responsibilities included learning and performing regular maintenance of the equipment, such as the 3D Printers, laser engraving machines, and the software for implementing robotics. Once I learned how to use the equipment, I was able to host different open houses, programs, and field trips for K-12 students interested in STEM overall. One of the program series I helped create involved different students coming to the iLab weekly to learn how to code and operate a Raspberry Pi PICO. This taught me how important it is to understand complex processes to explain it to others to an immensely simple degree. What I liked most about this experience was being able to teach the youth, which is essentially the future of information technology and cybersecurity.
My next internship at iSportsman ASciS is where I learned many skills in the technical field and professional development. As a Network Systems Administrative Intern, my main responsibilities were to monitor the cloud infrastructure, troubleshoot the server during any downtime, and monitor performance operations. I learned a multitude of skills in this position, such as how to navigate Microsoft Azure, the best methods for system monitoring, and how to create a robust disaster recovery plan for our infrastructure. With soft skills, I learned how to not only communicate better but also problem-solve more effectively and manage my time to complete tasks better than ever before.
