It is important to understand that computers have both made the world safer and made it less safe, as it is an amazing tool for regular people as well as those with malicious intent. Arguably, the advent of computers has made the world safer and less with the introduction of online banking. The ability to see your banking information quickly and track spending is an amazing tool that before this innovation people would either have to drive to the bank or an atm to know the status of their account or wait until a paper statement arrived in the mail. The fact that people are less likely to visit an atm means there is less of a chance that someone would target people going to an atm in order to rob them. Online banking has also made it easier for nefarious individuals to attempt to scam people with a scam that they will pretend to be someone from that person’s bank, have them log into their real account while the other person pretends to not be able to see, and then the scammer will change the webpage with inspect element to make it look like they deposited money into an account instead of taken money and then the scammer will have the victim send them money as repayment. Computers have also made the world safer by way of security cameras that can now be viewed in incredible detail, while live monitoring and recording one’s home while they are away. A byproduct of the incredible technology we have now is that more people are videoing themselves do things, sometimes this can lead to dangerous acts such as the “Tide Pod challenge” that went around the internet.
