Reflect on the Fall semester and the overall experience of your first semester at college.
- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.
I have grown from the beginning of this semester by gaining confidence in myself and what I can do. I put max effort this semester and at the start of the semester I thought I wouldn’t make it. I reached out for help when I needed it and that helped me out a lot. This semester taught me to put trust in myself and my academics.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.
I expected college to be overly hard and time consuming. I didn’t realize if you were on top of your work then college would not be so bad. It fortunately did not meet my expectations but it made me be more lenient on myself.
- What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?
Something i wish i knew 14 weeks ago was to worry about yourself and not others. I wish i knew to enjoy life outside of studying and school to have more of a social life on campus.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?
I spent hours a day studying chemistry as i still do. Chemistry is the only class I have stayed consistent in. Once I learned about my teachers and how they graded, it was better for me to separate my time when trying to turn in assignments and choosing times to study.
- How have your study habits changed?
My study habits has not changed. I do plenty of problems and questions until I can’t get them wrong. I look over the material before class and that a lone sets me up for success. For sociology class and history I learned to read over material and understand what happens in society.
- Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.
A resource I have used is quizlet and active recall. This has helped me retrieve the information in different time spans. I would not go over it again until two days later which r=helps me to always remember.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?
Some study habits I will be using next semester are staying organized in the things that I do. I will write down my assignments for the week so that I can stay on top of it and list when I need to get it done. I will also incorporate going to the gym as well and staying with my physical goals.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together.
These courses were tied together in relations history to the sociological statements made in society. History showed how the industrial revolution introduced technology and changed the minds of the Americans. In sociology we looked at how society changed due to the industrial revolution and that was a main cause in society.
- This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
- Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?
I would be interested in nuclear medicine because it has a radiology background which I am interested in.
- What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?
A benefit to taking a parallel plan would be to have a back up plan in case something goes wrong. It does not cause me to think nursing is the end all be all but I have something to lean on for my life. For example, if i don’t get into the nursing program , i do have something to continue on in my life.
- How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?
These majors could benefit my current major just by enhancing my knowledge in the healthcare field. It gives me more options to move to different specialties and still be satisfied with my choices. For example, i can be a radiologist or continue to be ultrasound tech.
