So this one is about using generative AI to make fake attack traffic that pretends to be a zero-day. Sounds smart, but here’s my honest take on the downsides.
First, a zero-day is by definition something nobody has seen yet. AI can only remix attacks it already knows about, so it can’t truly invent the next big exploit. A detection tool trained on that can look amazing in testing and still miss the real thing. That’s a false sense of security, and those are the worst kind.
Second, AI leaves fingerprints, kind of like how you can sometimes tell when a paper or a picture was made by AI. If a detector gets too good at spotting the AI’s style, it’s learning the AI, not the actual attack. And if the fake data causes tons of false alarms, analysts stop paying attention. That’s called alert fatigue, and it’s exactly when the real attack slips through. So this is a people problem, not just a tech problem.
