Cybersecurity has so much information and topics within it, kind of like layers of an onion. I would watch YouTube videos and a lot of topics of cybersecurity such as hacking, doxxing, and scams would be present in most of the videos. I just find the internet and cybersecurity an intriguing topic that isn’t really talked about around me. I’m sure this course will just fuel my interest in the topic! Also, taking this course will expand my knowledge on the topic. I recently found out cybercrime was a major offered to students from ODU thanks to the “What is Cybersecurity?” video in module 1. I’ll have to check out the requirements for that major just as a backup possibly. My YouTube recommended is full of videos about topics on the deep web and people getting caught by the FBI and police on the internet and deep web. I just find the psychology and criminal affects of behavior and what’s done on the internet fascinating: What or who influenced them to do this? How was their childhood? Were there factors that changed their development? I love getting answers to those questions and figuring out where everything spiraled. I’m curious to see how cybersecurity started and how the dangers escalated. Last year, I would do my own research about how the deep web got started and a few YouTube channels that were considered problematic. Some of those channels/ people behind the channels were known to dox people, steal identifies, and show disturbing/ cryptic messages and pictures. I just find all of these topics interesting and what to know what drove people to those states as previously stated. I’ve already learned a bit since the first module, and I’m super excited about what else this course will teach me and what will be discussed with everyone.
