What is information technology? Information technology is the communication or manipulation of information over various types of delivery such as text, email, or audio. Information technology can be a positive and a negative thing depending on how it’s being used and what for. Some positives to information technology are faster communication, ability to store information, and expanded security. However, the negatives to information technology are privacy, accessibility, accuracy, and property. These issues can arise the storing electronic information about individuals if the information gets into the wrong hands. The first ethical issue that can arise is privacy. Personal information can easily be stolen if one does not have privacy, such as making strong passwords or multi-factor authentication. Not having strong passwords and the proper security to protect your privacy can result in a security breach. The second ethical issue that can arise is accessibility. Accessibility can be referred to a way for those with disabilities to access the internet and websites. The third ethical issue that can arise is accuracy. Having the wrong information about someone can cause multiple problems. These problems could be medical and/or legal, as having the wrong information can cause the refusal of being taken cared of or legal troubles. The fourth ethical issue is property. Digital property can be referred to as cyber threats, cyber risks, data leaks, and viruses. It’s also important to know what sites you are using and the people you can talking to to make sure they are legit.
