Cyber technology has its positives and negatives to it, however, its negatives can be really devastating. Cyber technology has allowed predators/ offenders to roam all over the internet searching for their next victims. Cybercrime is Some offenders/ predators can pretend to be people the victims’ age and chat with them on social media. They could steal photos from the victim and some information they will learn about the victim and could potentially post them/ take “revenge.” Having photos of victims when they are underage is a crime in itself, but also it can destroy someone’s health in all ways possible. Victims can be groomed, and with the technology we have today, such as AI and voice changers, it can become more believable for people to become victims. In some cases, sadly, revenge porn is a thing. Sometimes these can also go on websites or the dark web for many to see. There was a documentary on Netflix I watched a few months ago called “The Most Hated Guy on the Internet,” which is about a guy named Hunter Moore. Hunter Moore had created a website for revenge porn, where anyone and everyone could use it and upload their own revenge porn. Many victims had their lives ruined by the website, and Hunter thought it was a genius and hilarious idea for a website. He even stole the identities of many victims and used them to his advantage. Another interactions that may occur is theft. This can include robbery, social security, and photos. Stealing photos of people is very common sadly, but it can be crime if used in the wrong way. By the “wrong way,” I mean in cases such as using that photo/ identity for IDs or for other legal stuff. Robbery can also happen, such as asking for people for money and claiming to be in a horrible situation when it’s not true. I’ve personally seen it happen all the time when artists claim to be in a horrible situation or is close to being homeless and will ask for commissioners, but they won’t finish their commission. The advancements in technology can progressive become worse for these types of cases.
