Every once in a while, we may think bad thoughts involving technology, such as “Have I been hacked?” or “What if my personal information is on the internet even though I did not post anything?” These thoughts can make us anxious, but they are many ways to verify that our electronics are safe and unharmed. One way is checking your settings/ doing a reboot. When you go to settings, you can check your username, email, and password and make sure they haven’t been tampered with. While you are here, you can even change your password just in case. Going to settings can also allow scanning for viruses. Doing a reboot can reset your device, but you can still check to see if your device is safe this way. Another way is enabling a firewall. A firewall protects against cyber attacks from outside network traffic. If you already have a firewall enabled, you can test it to make sure it is still strong and providing the protect it should. Multi factor authentication is another way to check. Most of the time, these will be checked with opening other apps on the device, Face ID, sending a code to an email/ phone number, etc. However, if frequent pop up ads show up on your device, your device is most likely hacked/ unsafe. These pop up ads can put an antivirus scan or put a malware infection on the device is hack it that way if clicked on. In that case, you can go to your settings and enable “block pop ups” and that should prevent future pop ups and harmful connection to your device.
