You have to be able to provide critical care to premature and sick newborns, administer medications and monitor vital signs, and operate specialized medical equipment.

1-2 years of nursing experience, often in acute care or emergency setting.

You need a BSN or ADN, RN license, basic life support certification, and advanced cardiac life support certification,

You need to have quick decision making, patient assessment skills, wound care, IV insertion, and maintaining composure under pressure.

I want to be a NICU nurse because I’m passionate about caring for newborns and supporting families. I have strong teamwork skills and am building clinical decision- making and hands- on skills. To improve, I’ll seek neonatal internships, attend training, and shadow experienced nurses.
