What inspired him/her to go into the field ?

She was inspired by her anatomy course her sophomore year in college and she was drawn in by the functions of the body. This then prompted her interest in becoming a nurse.

Throughout her years in college she began to gain experience and networking with others. She originally wanted to become an X-ray Technician; however, her interest changed once she got into the nursing program at Norfolk State University. She became interested in geriatrics and later became a home health geriatrics nurse. Additionally, she started working at Sentara Hospital as a care partner for seventeen years, while in school working to complete her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She soon graduated from Norfolk State 2010 with her BSN and became a Registered nurse working at home for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Basic roles/ responsibilities

As a registered nurse for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, her responsibilities include to review medical claims and to determine if the claims were paid or not. She analyzes insurance benefits packets to make sure every patient recieve the best plan that suits them. She also said that working in this scope of nursing made her more aware of the insurance difficulties patients face while trying to receive medical care.

His/Her favorite (or most rewarding aspect) about this job ?

She said that the most rewarding part of her job is that she’s able to balance her life and that her job is more flexible.

What is the most challenging aspect of their career ?

She said as a registered nurse for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield she does not have any challenges. However, when she worked in the hospital and as a home health nurse it was difficult balancing her life as the hospital was more demanding. However, She said that working in the hospital allowed her to better her skills as a nurse.
