Why I chose Nursing as my major?

I chose nursing as my major because I have always been fascinated with how the body works. Furthermore, my career goal is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner because I enjoy working with children , and I would love to be a supportive source in their care. I do not have any experience with nursing yet; however, I do plan to build my experience throughout my four years of college.

Parallel Major

My parallel major is Healthcare Administration. I chose this major because this program would allow me to build my knowledge by working in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, and physician practices. One interesting fact about healthcare administration is that careers in this field have many important responsibilities. For example, organizational roles, finances, leadership, and strong communication skills in order to make sure the facility is running smoothly and patients are satisfied.One career that I would pursue  with this major would be a health information manager. The roles and responsibilities of this career include ensuring patient’s health care records are accurate and protected. Additionally, the coursework of this major includes coding, biomedical sciences, data analysis, and legal knowledge for health information. In order to pursue this major, I would need to take an information and literacy course, and a professional elective. I could gain professional experiences to learn more about area of study by shadowing someone within  this profession and interview them as well.
