After watching the video Hacker Rates 12 Hacking Scenes In Movies And TV with Keren Elazari, I found that the media makes cybersecurity seem somewhat intimidating and fast-paced but also exciting. In the movie and TV scenes presented in the video, we are shown various elements of hacking, which are either confirmed or quickly debunked by Keren. When it comes to the media, it seems that most of the hacking scenes are pretty realistic regarding certain elements of cybersecurity, but one facet that they seem to neglect is the actual time it takes to accomplish the task they are trying to achieve. While the media seems to be hyperfocused on hacking and presents pretty accurate information, the details they add in order to make things more exciting can be misleading and incorrect. Also, the media leaves out the other aspects of cybersecurity that don’t deal with hacking, which is why most people who are unaware of what cybersecurity really entails can be influenced to believe that hacking is all there is to cybersecurity. I feel that if the media is going to include cybersecurity in the movies and television that we consume then they should also find a way to include other elements of cybersecurity and not just the exciting parts. I also believe that even if the media continues to only represent one aspect of cybersecurity, it can also influence people and possibly encourage them to enter the cybersecurity field, where they may find interest in the other jobs that make up cybersecurity.
