Article Review #1: Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide Ideation Among Jordanian College Students
Introduction
The article “Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide Ideation Among Jordanian College Students” covers the effects of cyberbullying and its correlation to suicidal thoughts among Jordanian students. The article also examines the psychological impact of cyberbullying on mental health and its connection to suicidal thoughts, commonly known as cyberbullicide among Jordanian students.
The Social Science Principles
The Key principles of Science that were explored in the article are mental health, social norms, and the effects that cyberbullying has on behavior. The study shows the effects that cyberbullying has on the mental health of targeted individuals and that the victims reported elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Because so many are affected by cyberbullying in some way, this awareness of the issue can eventually lead to help in stopping the spread of cyberbullying and forming preventative measures.
Research Questions and Hypotheses
The main question that the composers of the article propose is: What are the effects of cyberbullying on Jordanian University Students, and how does it correlate with cyberbullicide ideation? According to the article, there were higher rates of suicidal thoughts among students who reported that they were victims of cyberbullying. The article also shows that victimization may increase when you factor in gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.
Research Methods and Data Analysis
The study used a survey method, distributing questionnaires to students from different colleges. The surveys were used to gather information on the effects of cyberbullying and the frequency at which it occurs. The data was collected and then analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. The article also states that statistical analysis was also used to analyze the data collected. When all of the data was compiled, the researchers were able to evaluate the correlation between cyberbullying and its psychological impact.
Relation to Course Concepts and Marginalized Groups
The study relates to course material in the fact that it addresses cyberbullying and its effects on social interactions and behaviors. Concerns when it comes to marginalized groups are that because of the accessibility to the Internet, they are more vulnerable to victimization. The study shows that low-income families, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and young women or girls have a higher chance of becoming victims of cyberbullying, which increases the chance of them having cyberbullicide ideations.
Societal Contributions
The article highlights the concern of cyberbullying on mental health and the need for increased protection and preventative measures. By connecting cyberbullying and cyberbullicide ideations, the article provides more insight into how victims can be helped to recover and prevent further victimization of vulnerable individuals.
Conclusion
The article “Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide Ideation Among Jordanian College Students” offers insight into the effects of cyberbullying and the impact it has on the mental of the Jordanian students that were surveyed. Through collective data, the study increases awareness of the issue at hand, promotes understanding, and allows for further progression in policies and preventative measures.
