Mid-Semester Reflection

Considering your Pre-Semester Reflection, identify the changes you have made between the start of the semester and now, and how you are going to continue working on areas that you are struggling.

Study Habits

  • What classes are you doing well in, and why?

In sociology, everything is easy we have assignments we do online, and despite lectures being mandatory and extremely early in the morning it’s a decent class and can occasionally be engaging, but the fact that it’s so early in the morning, as a commuter, it makes it hard for me to wake up on time.

  • What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?

None. Maybe my chemistry some of the chapters just don’t click for me so I need one-on-one explanation because watching YouTube videos feel like a fever dream.

  • What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)?

I don’t prepare myself to look good in early classes so it gives me more time to get to class early, however getting ready in the morning is one of the highlights of my day, but compared to getting absences and getting points taken off to looking good I rather look bad then potentially damaging my grades. For some reason I don’t know why it just now clicked for me but I have an hour between each of my classes so I can spend 30 minutes between each of my classes to finish up homework, assignments etc.

Transition to College

  • What expectations did you have coming to college?

Expected it to be a lot, but I was extremely overwhelmed and thought it wasn’t for me despite all my life I knew that I wanted to go to college. However, it was just a different setting it really wasn’t that bad I just had to get used to coming from 2 different ways of teaching styles(?) one that would talk and give in-class assignments and really talk about it to a more lecture-heavy type of style.

  • Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?

No, I think it’s way more tame then how most teachers say it to be.

  • How?

You can make your own schedule which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! I can make the schedule that fits to my schedule. I know what I’m gonna be getting into and I can give myself an hour between my classes so it’s not back to back.

  • In what way is your college experience different from what you expected?

I thought it was gonna be extremely stressful to work nonstop study non and have no time for anything which is kinda true but with the right time management, it’s not too bad.

  • What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?

Nothing it’s kinda how I expected it to be but it’s boring, there’s nothing that’s really exciting.

  • If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?
  • OR  If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?

Waking up early for earlier classes I have a class at 8 but I need to wake up at 5-6 to get ready and leave the house by 7 as it takes 20-30 minutes to make it to class and then the parking garage depending on where you park it’s a long walk to get to your next class. The easiest challenge would be none there aren’t many challenges.

Major

  • Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

Dental Hygiene, I didn’t learn anything other then the clinic and being more open minded.

  • Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.

Yeah, I switched majors to biology because I learned that they pay more attention to your science GPA, rather than major so I gotta get my science up!

  • Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?

none

Connecting to Campus

  • Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.

None so far, they’ve been all really helpful and friendly

  • Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?

All the advisors I’ve spoken with have been so helpful, they helped given me contact information and despite knowing how busy they get they respond in a very timely manner.

  • Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?

No, sometimes college clubs kind of feel like a cult.
