This is probably my sign to start locking in and gaining healthy habits like doing my work on time, waking up early, and not procrastinating.

What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.

I thought college would be extremely tough, especially with how many high school teachers are constantly telling you that professors would not be as lax as them but when I got to college I realized that professors are way more understanding. College in general dare I say is a lot easier than high school especially since in high school you had like 4 consecutive classes in a row however in college you get 30 minutes to an hour between allowing you the time to chill, and do work.

What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?

To keep doing my work on time as it will be worth it and you won’t have to stay up doing work till morning.

Study Habits

How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?

I spent like 1-2 hours studying in one day, and I still do that however recently I’ve been spending around 30 minutes every day studying which has helped me memorize topics a lot easier.

How have your study habits changed?

Instead of cramming it in one day and then forgetting it the next day I take my time to study the topics to get a better understanding and to remember it better.

Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.

YouTube and my family, YouTube is so convenient you have videos about topics you don’t understand and I know how bad it is to use chatGPT but it has saved me studying as well because sometimes the internet doesn’t have the answers to your questions or doesn’t explain something with enough detail and so when you use chatGPT it helps you out a bunch and you can even ask it explain further.

What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?

I’m thinking about using flashcards, but thinking about it in the long run it’s gonna get tedious and I’ll be too lazy to do flashcards. So the way I’m studying right now has been working so I’ll just stick to what I’ve been doing and gradually add new stuff I can do to study.

Health Professions Learning Community

This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.

On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together.

I’m enrolled in all of these classes and I enjoyed how some parts connect, especially with Sociology and history, where we learned more about the history of health and the background and how In sociology it goes further in-depth with the themes of health and then in health it talks more about the recent times and what to really consider while in chemistry it helps you learn about the conversions you can do that will help you when dealing with chemicals.

Parallel Plan

This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.

Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?

There isn’t really any other major I’d be interested in because I’m so committed to the job I want to have in my future, however in another life maybe I would’ve done psychology because I have such a high interest in the human mind and why we do the things we do and how we as humans are so creative in so many different ways.

What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?

Just in case you realize that maybe the major you have isn’t what you’re passionate about or you realize that the things they’re doing aren’t what you had in mind, and instead of being miserable doing what you’re not passionate about you can always switch to a new thought out plan.

How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?

I already switched my major from dental hygiene to biology and they both correlate with each other in how they are science related, however, one is broader in science while the other is more specific for a certain thing. They both would’ve benefitted me but I think biology will help me gain the necessary knowledge for me to achieve what I want.

Reflect on the Fall semester and the overall experience of your first semester at college.
