How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
The definition of deviance is the “fact or state of departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior.” The advanced cyber technology today has created many more opportunities for workplace deviance. The one major issue about cyber technology today is that some can be anonymous if they chose to be. This person is a very big problem. With the internet, a person can harass another coworker, and the victim has no idea who is it. This sense of being invisible gives the person more confidence to do or say more than they usually would. Not only does it make them invisible but harassing someone from behind a screen is completely different than doing it face to face. Not being face to face usually give the person extra strength to be more brutal because they do not have to take responsibility for their actions. On another said of things they could take the idea of behind the screen to a whole new level. They could steal information about the company or even steal personal information about other people. It is a lot easier to do this on the internet than to do it in person. The employee could do this for a number of reasons. But being that they are working in a cybersecurity company they probably know ways around their security. For example, say an employee was fired so they decided to steal information from the company and then sell it to another company or a third party for a crazy amount of money. This would be very bad for the company, to have all of their secrets out or even the personal information of their customers because then it would ruin their reputation. With the advancement of cyber technology, today comes a lot of issues and concerns with workplace deviance.
