What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
There is a big overlap and relationship between criminal justice and cybercrime. Criminal justice is the delivery of justice to those who have committed crimes. Criminal Justice is supposed to protect citizens from harmful things. Cybercrime is criminal activity carried out by means of computers or the internet. Cybercrime is still relatively new and keeps evolving and changing and will continue to do so. This means that the criminal justice system has to keep changing and evolving to keep as many people protected from cybercrime as possible. Cybercrime has become a very big aspect of crime today as people get more skillful in technology and also as technology becomes more advanced. This puts stress on criminal justice to stay up to date, aware, and focused on technology. On top of, of course focusing on physical crime as well. Not only are they now having to be aware, but they also have to have another entire task force and training for cybercrime. Having another task force is not only more people but more time and money as well. In cybercrime, the offender can be a lot harder to catch. The anonymity of the internet can be really uncanny sometimes, especially if they are dealing with a skilled hacker. Some hackers and other cybercrime offenders are so skilled that they can leave no or next to no evidence. That is another reason why criminal justice has to have an entire section for cybercrimes. They need to have special training and education to be able to deal with skilled cybercrime offenders who are able to hardly leave a trace of themselves. On another note criminal justice has to set laws and rules in place and most likely will continue to have to adjust these laws for the years to come. Again I think a very important idea to remember is that the more that cybercrime evolves the more criminal justice has to evolve as well.
