What are the costs and benefits of developing cybersecurity programs in business?
The cost of developing cybersecurity programs in business can be very expensive but it is not more expensive than the amount of damage that a business can be hit with if they were to get cyber attacked. In the past six years, 112 billion dollars had been stolen just by identity fraud. It is best now to invest in developing cybersecurity programs that protect the business from what might happen versus dealing with the damage that is done if it does happen. A company will never know how much it can lose until it happens. It can be as little as ten dollars or as big as millions. Why not be safe just in case? The benefits by far outway the cost of developing the program. Some of the benefits include the prevention and protection of the business, gives a sense of safety for the company and customers, and a plan of action in case an attack does happen. The prevention and protection is the biggest benefit there is, stopping a problem before it becomes a problem is a very smart choice. Having a cybersecurity program gives even customers a sense of safety and protection for their information. If customers feel like their information is safe with the company they will continue to return and even tell other people about the company. Also having a plan of action to follow in case there is a security breach is a very smart way to go. Sometimes a company can talk all the precautions they can but a hacker still gets through. In this unfortunate case of events at least everyone knows what protocol to follow and there is order instead of utter chaos. A cyber attack can be very hard for a business to recover from so it is a better choice to develop a cybersecurity program first. So yes there is a cost to developing a cybersecurity program but the benefits definitely outway the cost.
