Outcome: The greatest change in my French abilities since the beginning of the of the semester has been that I am becoming increasingly able to speak on topics that I am interested in. Between the course material and my own efforts outside of class I started to be able to discuss political matters, new activities in better detail, and I have gotten better at stringing together sentences and speaking more fluently. I really enjoyed learning to discuss matters of energy and the environment and learning how to translate specific material from my major that relates to these fields. In preparing for my speaking test I wrote about this:
“Je suis trés excité pour nouvelle formes d’énergie. J’espère que l’énergie de fusion nucléaire, comme le réacteur thermonucléaire expérimental international, travaille dans ma vie, parce que c’est le meilleur formes d’énergie.”
Also, I am able to talk about activities that I enjoy now like surfing, diving, and rock climbing, which I did some of in my final speaking test.
Experience: Outside of class I have spent more time practicing French by trying to translate course material from other classes, watching videos on youtube in French about things I am interested in, and I have used my French skills in another class while researching, because I came across a chart that was in French.

Transfer: I am excited to be able to apply the French I’ve learned simply in
learning more and practicing my fluency, but I will definitely be able to integrate
these skills further into my life. I enjoy watching how to videos on youtube
and I challenge myself to do this in French now. I also work with a lot
international students leading outdoor adventure trips so I will hopefully be
able to communicate with native French speakers on subjects of surfing or
backpacking or paddling.
