Overview

The Barry Robinson Center is a behavioral health system for the youth. This system includes Residential treatment, foster care, and outpatient care. The physical address of this business is 443 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA 23502. The Barry Robinson Center is a nonprofit charitable organization that mostly caters to the military community.

In 1924 a Norfolk businessman, Frederick Robinson, passed away and left all of his money to create a home and school of arts and trades for orphan boys. In 1933 it turned into a middle school and then over time added higher education grades also. In 1977 this school turn into a School for Boys that had emotional, behavioral, educational, and social problems. In 1986 the Barry Robinson center expanded to serve girls also. The Barry Robinson centers have core values that include respect, justice, compassion, integrity, quality, and confidentiality. The main mission of the Barry Robinson center is to improve the lives of children.

My preceptor for this internship name is Charlie James. Charlie James holds a master’s in business administration. He is currently the director of the finance department at the Barry Robinson center. At the Barry Robinson center, he is in charge of overseeing all financial activity. Some of his responsibilities include budgeting and disbursing funds to departments. The financial director plans, directs and controls accounting operations. He also oversees payroll and billing. During my internship, I will be going through the revenue cycle with him to improve the admissions and financial processes in this healthcare facility.
