My initial course expectations were to come out on the other side more informed and equipped to handle social situations because of my introverted nature. I was excited to delve into social constructs and their relationships to our social exchanges. Overall I was able to gain insight and knowledge on both of these topics and a lot more. This course overlapped a lot with my previous introduction psychology courses and also the introductory anthropology course I am taking right now. My ideas about social psychology have changed in the sense that I am now aware of how many complexities go into trying to perceive and understand someone, and that a lot of things need to be assessed case by case. If I took this class again I would force myself to be more present when working, this semester was likely strange and hectic for all of us and I just think my mental wasn’t all into really any of my classes this semester. I will say that I have grown academically because this was my first semester really having strict and structured , “my way or the highway” professors and so I was forced to change a lot of my last minute habits and had to step my game up. One skill of mine that I believe has increased over the last few months is Altruism , one which will get me far in my professional life.

So far in this course the biggest thing I have learned or that has been made more clear to me is the vast influence that society and other cans have on you and your decisions. Another topic I will always enjoy visiting and learning more about is the role that prejudice and racism plays in our lives. The racial tirade assignment made me realize how often people pass off racism as if it isn’t and I believe that’s what’s wrong with our country. Lastly the section about love and companion was interesting and stuck with me. The love style question assessment was basically spot on for me. I would relate my ATA2 to my blog 7 because they both made me assess how I felt about myself. This course actually overlaps with a course I’m currently taking which is anthropology. Both courses touched base on the presence and effects of the social constructs we aren’t even aware of.

I honestly think the biggest reason why women get upset with men is because of lack of appreciation or attention. I believe that mostly everyone is born with the need for emotional connection but men tend the lose some of that when they try to conform to what society has decided it means to be a man. To go off my reason why women get upset with men , I think men may get equally upset with women because they don’t necessarily understand our need for reassurance or why we obsess over the things that we do. Personally I believe that both situations can be changed by acceptance, understanding, and new habits that would form new ideas about what it means to be in a relationship and what it means to support your partner.

Our emotions come from within. By getting a better understanding of our emotions we become emotionally intelligent. By controlling how these emotions manifest physically or mentally then we practice self regulation. There is a direct link to what we think and what we feel. For me becoming emotionally intelligent has been important in honestly my survival. I have always been sensitive and as a child I didn’t properly project my abundance of emotion and when I was in high school I decided to try to forget my emotions and that didn’t work either. I had to realize that feeling deeply was apart of who I am and I had to get comfortable and shed light on these emotions to properly deal with and express them.

After reviewing my test I was more clear on the parts of the modules that I didn’t really catch and what I did well on. I didn’t study very much for this in terms of going back over my notes and actually doing the study guide. However ,I know that if I use that in combination with studying sets of vocabulary on quizlet that I will get a higher score on the second exam.

I think this course will be beneficial to me in the future because of its focus on connections. I am usually an introvert who feels like they have trouble connecting with people, I hope that by better understanding social situations that I will be able to make stronger connections with others. My expectations for this course are to explore social constructs, the role that emotions play in those interactions and also the internal processes that are involved in our everyday social exchanges. To ensure my success in this course I plan to take weekly, organized notes on the material that can be easily accessed and studied. To some this may be a simple and fundamental part of taking a class but it has never been something I’ve kept up with.

bottom right image: Some women are naturally born with a pear body shape , this is almost just as bad as telling a person the color they were born is ugly.
I don’t think I thought to much into the dangers of ads until after watching this Ted Talk. I am the kind of person to skip past ad’s and think they aren’t affecting me but after watching this I know that that isn’t true. I would have placed all the blame on social media for the unrealistic standards that are imposed on women but now I realize how much of it has to do with the ads we see on a daily basis.
