In the past six weeks, I’ve become a little more confident in my writing skills. By taking this class, It helped me improve my writing and grammar little by little. My writing skills didn’t really improve as much as I wanted, but it helped me develop a strong thesis and an arguable statement.  A good thesis would allow the paper to catch the reader’s attention, will be more clear, and understandable. Having a good essay means that you have to have an introduction, thesis, four body paragraphs and a conclusion, will mostly mean you’ll get a good grade. I’ve had easy problems to fix in my essays but I never see them because most of the time I forgot to re-read over it. However, when we do the peer reviews in class with our classmates is helpful because they can see mistakes that no one else saw and plus they can give you ideas of how to improve your essay. Also, participating in peer-reviewing has helped me not just talk to my classmates, but also helped realize the little mistakes I made in my essays. The feedback that I got from my classmates has been very positive, has encouraged me to read more carefully and to work harder in future essays. In addition, not only my classmates helped me to do better in my essays but also going to the writing center and sitting one on one with a student is very helpful. Also, receiving feedback from our professor is very useful because they are telling us what we need to correct and what they are looking for in our paper. On the other hand, sitting down with a student and having them review my paper has allowed me to understand what many professors are looking for in a student’s essay and what they don’t. In each appointment that I attended, I was able to find a new mistake or something I could improve. My strategies and my techniques have grown stronger and my ability to be focused on the important things in my essay. The little mistakes that I’ve made in the beginning have slowly gone away and the vocabulary is stronger. Overall, I’m positive that I made improvements in these past few weeks even though we only wrote two essays. Taking this course has helped me to improve my writing, fix my mistakes and to be able to write a better essay. 

Journal #1

Changing from high school to college is a big change, in high school, there were teachers and their counselor reminding them things to turn in or what they need. It will take some time to adjust to the classes and knowing my way around campus. Also, college students are on their own. They have no one really of reminding of anything. Everything that I was used to in high school has to change because it’s not the same. It will take a little time to adjust in this semester, but it won’t be hard once I get used to my classes or trying to do my best in all my classes.

Journal #2

My favorite sport is soccer because I think soccer is the most interesting sport out there. In my opinion, the other sports can get boring pretty quickly, like football for instance. For the first ten to 20 minutes could relatively be interesting to watch, but when it gets to half time, then that’s when it starts to get boring and less exciting. When I asked people why football isn’t an interesting sport, they would say it just involves running and catching the football. I wouldn’t disagree with them because that’s what Football literally is. On the other hand, soccer is more interesting because soccer gets intense, is fun to watch, and is interesting to watch how the players steal the soccer ball from each other. Also, there are interesting ways of how the players make a goal. I started liking soccer since I was small.

Journal #3

If I had one wish, I would wish to travel around the world or to travel back in time. To be to travel around the world would be amazing, and it would be fun seeing and visiting places that I have never been to. Also meeting new people from different places would be cool and hearing languages that I never heard would be amazing nowadays it can cost a lot to just travel to one country, and it can also depend on where they are traveling to. in addition, traveling back in time would be great because I love to see what happened before I was born and I would like to see how it was back in the days.

If I had to move to another state. I would choose to move to Florida. One of the reasons that I wanna move to Florida is that it’s more diverse than Virginia. It also has nice summers and beaches. I’ve also heard that Florida is that it usually gets hits by hurricanes. Other than that, living in Florida would be amazing.

Journal #5

In my opinion, thunderstorms are inspiring. It probably isn’t for everyone. I think they’re because looking up at the sky and seeing a huge flash of lights are amazing. in addition, when it thunderstorms it rains. I like hearing the sound of the rain, and it’s peaceful to watch. Some thunderstorms are scary, but it’s slothful to hear them.
