I think that media can both harm and help our understanding of cybersecurity. I believe media can harm our understanding as it can diminish the risk associated with certain technologies. For example, a movie may show a character plugging into a specific device in order to continue the plot of the story; however, one does not want to plug into any device as it could carry malicious malware. In contrast, media could help our understanding of cybersecurity by showing a potential result associated with a risk. For instance, a piece of media could show a character utilizing a public network to gain access to specific information. As a result of utilizing the public network, the piece of media could show their information being access by an unauthorized user, ultimately showing the cybersecurity risk and the consequences that follow.
