When reaching out to Trey Wilson of the flying squirrels’ baseball team it went easier and more modern
than I expected. After looking for a communication job in the sports department I decided on going for
the director of my hometown baseball team The “Richmond Flying Squirrels” so after finding him on
Linkedin I found the link for his Twitter, Instagram, and personal blog. Decided to go to his Twitter
since he seems the most active on it. And I didn’t want to go to his personal blog due to fear of my
message being lost. I noticed that he has his messages open to the public. Doing this would be way
faster than sending an email and more direct. So, I messaged him through a Twitter DM. After a
paragraph asking him about the assignment, he then gave me a proper email address to email him with
while saying that he is delighted about working with me. After a few days of waiting, I then got a reply
saying that he is delighted to talk with me. Next week. This week is apparently very busy with him. He is
working on a few basketball games and is in the middle of moving. But luckily, he has a blog post and his
Twitter information in order to get information.

Trey Wilson is a play-by-play broadcaster and writer who specializes in media relations and sports
information. Born in Portsmouth, Va., he has spent time living in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, west
Virginia, Michigan and Pennsylvania. With his well-traveled self, he is able to get and have a multitude of
different outlooks and perspectives and unique stories to tell of his time in the field.
He is currently a director of communications and broadcasting for the Richmond Flying squirrels, who
are the double-A affiliate team of the San Francisco Giants. He is also the host of the teams’ bi-weekly
television show, “Flying Squirrels Insider.” On the off-air, he maintains the flying squirrels’ website, and assists
with the social media and graphic design.
In the past, he also served as the director of communications and broadcasting for the Altoona Curve,
Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, from 2015 to 2018.
In 2014 he was the communications and broadcast assistant for the Lansing Lugnuts, the Single-A
affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
As a student, he spent 2 seasons writing for FutureJays.com. Which is a Fox sports-affiliated site
covering the blue jays in Bluefield from 2011-2012.
He also likes studying music and US history in his downtime.
On his blog, he has documented his work in Baseball and television broadcasting. Sadly he has taken
down his work doing other sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, and American Football due to the files
being old and because he has become a better broadcaster since then.
I cant wait to continue to talk to him throughout this semester.
