For this assignment, my professional pen pal, Trey Wilson, and I planned on setting up a sort of revival for his show in this new age.
During our interview, we talked about before the pandemic he used to do a mini broadcasting show called the Flying Squirrels Insider where he would interview baseball players and play games with them.
My idea is that we create the show again but this time run it as short clips to be shared on different platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and even back to YouTube. So that they can have more freedom while also extending their reach to more people. With the new era of how people intake media a complete revival of how they were doing the show before with 20-minute episodes with different segments might be a bit too much for the general audience with a shorter attention span. So, we could take the individual segments and make them their own videos.

An example of this could be the type of TikTok’s that sports teams use and do to promote themselves after a game or a big event, by using quick action editing and shortening the segments to make replayability stronger.
Since they do multiple sports, this is a good way to branch out and hit multiple people at once.
It does not only have to be new content; we could also redo content as like a “we were there now we are here” type of content which make things interesting for people just tuning in.
Or possible content that sort of makes fun of the team itself in a positive way. For example, the Richmond flying squirrels weren’t a very good team back in the early 2010s but now they are winning multiple games and can actually be a good contender.
This media campaign will act as a job but we will test how the reception works after two months of working on it. That time frame is used to give the content a proper amount of time to mature and grow.

The end goal is to continue the show into a new age of technology with myself being one of the main editors. This way we can work on the multi-sports Richmond brand while also I can work more on my editing skills for this job or future projects. A win-win for us both even if this doesn’t work.
